  • Position Summary

    The Senior Software Developer develops and maintains web applications and systems for Columbia College Information Technology (CCIT). The role works collaboratively with other functional areas within CCIT to maintain and develop custom software for the Columbia College community. This position assists with the integration and deployment of third-party software as needed.

    Responsibilities

  • Assists with management of the web application portfolio, operating as deputy to the Director, Software Development.
  • Acts as technical, project, and support lead for application and system development.
  • Works on day-to-day operations of web applications and systems for Columbia College Information Technology (CCIT) in support of the Colleges administrative departments.
  • Develops new features, performs upgrades, and resolves issues with custom web applications.
  • Engages in unit, integration, and acceptance testing of web applications and infrastructure.
  • Provides client support for web applications. Assesses and troubleshoots issues, and communicates status with clients and management.
  • Develops technical and end user documentation for custom and supported web applications.
  • Provides technical and non-technical training to CCIT and College staff about custom web applications and software development practices.
  • Monitors web applications and components of web infrastructure and responds to issues as necessary.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other CCIT functional areas to provide software development expertise.
  • Assists with the architecture and development of the Colleges Salesforce CRM implementation.
  • Mentors other developers.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree and/or its equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of web application development experience in a professional setting required.
  • Proven excellence in managing and developing custom web applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of software development, security, design, and project management best practices.
  • The ability to work with high degree of independence and accountability as a member of a cohesive team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with server-side scripting language such as PHP, Python, or Ruby using a modern backend framework like Symfony, Laravel, Ruby on Rails, or Django. Experience with the PHP ecosystem is strongly desired.
  • Experience with JavaScript and frontend development frameworks.
  • Familiarity with CSS, Sass, and CSS frameworks such as Twitter Bootstrap.
  • Familiarity with deploying web applications, Linux administration, and continuous integration.
